Neighborhood Start Up Fund
Lupe Fiasco has teamed up with Di-Ann Eisnor, the Head of Global Partnerships at the popular traffic and navigation app Waze, to start a new charity fund. The Neighborhood Start-up Fund will aim to help economically disadvantaged communities develop new and successful businesses right in their own neighborhoods. They promise “to support entrepreneurs and start-ups from underserved areas, so the best new ideas won’t go wasted.” Winning their support grants the new businesses access to networking events, workshops, professional mentoring, and financial funding.
The fund is unique in its approach, choosing to focus on one underserved neighborhood at a time, with the first being Brownsville, Brooklyn.
In her announcement, Eisnor said, “We’ve just opened the idea competition and the first live pitch event will be Nov. 13, 2015. We will be housed at the Dream Big Foundation’s new entrepreneurship center and cafe opening in Jan. 2016.” The invitation to present your idea to a panel of 6 yet-to-be-announced judges will be limited to 100 guests, and will be dependent on your idea being selected upon submission here.
